Christopher Street Liberation Day, the predecessor to the Gay Pride March, occurred in New York City on Sunday, June 28, 1970 to mark the 1 year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

What was it like to arrive at the starting off point for the very first march? This leaflet was handed out to people as they lined up to march from the Village up to Central Park.

  • Urged participants not to respond to hecklers

  • Explained that the march was in fact legal, and protected by the police and CSLDC marshals (Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee)

  • Congratulated marchers for joining a historic event
